The Friends of the Library is an all-volunteer group dedicated to making the Huntington Beach Public Library a valuable resource for the community. Not only does the FOTL donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Library each year, in 2019 the dedicated men and women who volunteer with the FOTL also donated over 56,000 volunteer hours, the equivalent of 27 full-time employees. This contribution of volunteer hours provides a savings of nearly $1,300,000 to the city of Huntington Beach.

Every dollar made is given to the Library for new books, digital databases and programs for the community. The list of volunteer opportunities below is partial and ever changing as we continue to grow and expand. What unique skills do you have that can be of service? Let us know, we'd love to have you join our team.
Some of the benefits of volunteering include staying active and productive, developing new friendships, learning new skills, strengthen past skills, helping others and meeting new people. Volunteerism helps reduce stress and anxiety and makes our community stronger. The friendships that are created are additionally cultivated through outside activities such as attending events and luncheons together. And, each year the library honors the volunteers at a large springtime luncheon.
Assistant Vice President of Programs
The Friends of the Library Programs team is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to serve as the Assistant Vice President of Programs. This is an Executive Board level position and requires a commitment of one year.
Volunteer Responsibilities Include: Assist in the coordination, planning and implementation of all FOTL author programs, special events and field trips. Assist in the writing and creating of marketing material for promotion of events, create event promotion timelines and manage event registrations. Training will be provided.
Ideal candidates must be comfortable working in a fun, fast paced environment. Be comfortable writing and responding to emails in a timely and professional manner, meeting deadlines and working with a team.
This is an exciting role and an excellent opportunity to grow and develop skills in communication, marketing and event planning. Extensive training will be provided.
Time commitment will be approximately 4-6 hours per week in addition to attending monthly FOTL board meetings and attending all live and virtual events, programs and field trips.
Manage digital communications for the FOTL including sending e-mails to members, updating website.
